The Riot in Ephesus
23 About that time there arose a great disturbance about the Way.κ·Έ λ¬΄λ ΅ μλ² μμμλ 볡μμ λ§μ λλ¬Έμ ν° μλμ΄ μΌμ΄λ¬μ΅λλ€. 24 A silversmith named Demetrius, who made silver shrines of Artemis, brought in a lot of business for the craftsmen there.λ°λ©λ리μ€λΌλ μμΈκ³΅μ
μλ μλ°λ―Έ μ¬μ μ μ λͺ¨νμ λ§λλ μ¬λμ΄μλλ° μ§κ³΅λ€μκ² μ μ§ μμ λλ²μ΄λ₯Ό μ κ³΅ν΄ μ£Όκ³ μμμ΅λλ€. 25 He called them together, along with the workers in related trades, and said: “You know, my friends, that we receive a good income from this business. κ·Έκ° μ§κ³΅λ€μ λ¬Όλ‘ μ΄ μΌμ κ΄λ ¨λ μΌκΎΌλ€μ λΆλ¬ λͺ¨μ λκ³ λ§νμ΅λλ€. “μ¬λ¬λΆ, μ¬λ¬λΆλ μλ€μνΌ μ°λ¦¬κ° μ΄ μ¬μ
μΌλ‘ μλμ΄ κ½€ μ’μμ΅λλ€.
26 And you see and hear how this fellow Paul has convinced and led astray large numbers of people here in Ephesus and in practically the whole province of Asia. He says that gods made by human hands are no gods at all. κ·Έλ°λ° μ¬λ¬λΆλ λ³΄κ³ λ€μ λλ‘ λ°μΈμ΄λΌλ μ΄ μ¬λμ΄ μ¬κΈ° μλ² μλΏ μλλΌ μμμ μ¨ μ§λ°©μμ ‘μ¬λμ΄ λ§λ μ μ μ μ΄ μλλ€’λΌλ©° λ§μ μ¬λλ€μ μ€λν΄ λ§μμ λλ €λκ³ μμ΅λλ€27 There is danger not only that our trade will lose its good name, but also that the temple of the great goddess Artemis will be discredited; and the goddess herself, who is worshiped throughout the province of Asia and the world, will be robbed of her divine majesty.”μ΄λ κ² λλ©΄ μ°λ¦¬ μ¬μ

28 When they heard this, they were furious and began shouting: “Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!” κ·Έλ€μ΄ μ΄ λ§μ λ£μ νκ° μΉλ°μ΄ μ¬λΌ “μλ² μ μ¬λλ€μ μλ°λ―Έ μ¬μ μ μλνλ€!” νκ³ μ리 λμμ΅λλ€29 Soon the whole city was in an uproar. The people seized Gaius and Aristarchus, Paul’s traveling companions from Macedonia, and all of them rushed into the theater together. κ·Έλ¬μ λμλ μμκ°μ μ¨ν΅ μλμ€λ¬μμ‘κ³ μ¬λλ€μ λ§μΌλλμμμλΆν° λ°μΈκ³Ό λνν κ°μ΄μ€μ μ리μ€λ€κ³ λ₯Ό λΆμ‘μ μΌμ ν μ°κ·Ήμ₯ μμΌλ‘ λͺ°λ € λ€μ΄κ°μ΅λλ€.
30 Paul wanted to appear before the crowd, but the disciples would not let him. λ°μΈμ΄ μ¬λλ€ μμ λμλ €κ³ νμ§λ§ μ μλ€μ΄ λ§λ Έμ΅λλ€.
31 Even some of the officials of the province, friends of Paul, sent him a message begging him not to venture into the theater.λ°μΈμ μΉκ΅¬μΈ κ·Έ μ§λ°©μ κ΄λ¦¬λ€λ μ¬λμ λ³΄λ΄ λ°μΈλλ¬ μνμ 무λ¦
μ°κ³ μ°κ·Ήμ₯ μμΌλ‘ λ€μ΄κ°μ§ λ§λΌκ³ κ°κ³‘ν κΆνμ΅λλ€.
32 The assembly was in confusion: Some were shouting one thing, some another.Most of the people did not even know why they were there.μ°κ·Ήμ₯ μμμ μ΄λ€ μ¬λμ μ΄ λ§μ νκ³ λ λ€λ₯Έ μ¬λμ μ λ§μ νλ ν΅μ λͺ¨μΈ κ³³μ λ§€μ° νΌλμ€λ½κ² λμ΅λλ€. μ¬μ§μ΄ μκΈ°λ€μ΄ μ κ·Έκ³³μ λͺ¨μλμ§ λͺ¨λ₯΄λ μ¬λλ€λ λλΆλΆμ΄μμ΅λλ€. 33 The Jews in the crowd pushed Alexander to the front, and they shouted instructions to him. He motioned for silence in order to make a defense before the people. μ λ μ¬λλ€μ΄ κ΅°μ€ κ°μ΄λ°μ μλ μ°λλ₯Ό μμΌλ‘ λ°μ΄λμ΅λλ€. κ·Έλ¬μ κ·Έλ μ‘°μ©ν νλΌκ³ μμ§νκ³ μ¬λλ€ μμμ λ³νΈνλ €κ³ νμ΅λλ€.34 But when they realized he was a Jew, they all shouted in unison for about two hours: “Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!”κ·Έλ¬λ κ·Έκ° μ λ μ¬λμμ μμμ± κ·Έλ€μ λͺ¨λ ν λͺ©μλ¦¬λ‘ “μλ² μ μ¬λλ€μ μλ°λ―Έ μ¬μ μ μλνλ€!”λΌλ©° λ μκ° λμμ΄λ μΈμ³ λμ΅λλ€.
35 The city clerk quieted the crowd and said: “Fellow Ephesians, doesn’t all the world know that the city of Ephesus is the guardian of the temple of the great Artemis and of her image, which fell from heaven?λ§μΉ¨λ΄ μλ² μ μμ² μκΈ°κ΄μ΄ μ¬λλ€μ μ§μ μν€κ³ λ§νμ΅λλ€. “μλ² μ μλ―Όλ€μ΄μ¬, μ΄ μλ² μ λμκ° μλν μλ°λ―Έμ μ μ κ³Ό νλμμ λ΄λ €μ¨ κ·Έ μ μμ μ§ν€κ³ μλ κ²μ μ¨ μΈμμ΄ λ€ μμ§ μμ΅λκΉ? 36 Therefore, since these facts are undeniable, you ought to calm down and not do anything rash.μ΄κ²μ λΆμΈν μ μλ μ¬μ€μ΄λ―λ‘ μ΄μ μ¬λ¬λΆμ μ§μ νκ³ κ²½μν νλμ μΌκ°μΌ ν©λλ€. 37 You have brought these men here, though they have neither robbed temples nor blasphemed our goddess.μ¬λ¬λΆμ μ΄ μ¬λλ€μ΄ μ μ 물건μ λλμ§νκ±°λ μ°λ¦¬ μ¬μ μ λͺ¨λ
ν κ²λ μλλ° μ΄κ³³μΌλ‘ λκ³ μμ΅λλ€ 38 If, then, Demetrius and his fellow craftsmen have a grievance against anybody, the courts are open and there are proconsuls. They can press charges. κ·Έλ¬λ―λ‘ λ°λ©λ리μ€μ κ·Έ λλ£ μ§κ³΅λ€μ λꡬλ₯Ό κ³ μν μΌμ΄ μλ€λ©΄ λ²μ μ΄ μ΄λ € μκ³ κ±°κΈ° μ΄λ

λλ€.39 If there is anything further you want to bring up, it must be settled in a legal assembly. κ·Έ λ°μ μ¬λ¬λΆμ΄ μ κΈ°νκ³ μΆμ λ¬Έμ κ° λ μλ€λ©΄ κ·Έκ²μ μ μ μ§νμμ ν΄κ²°ν΄μΌ ν κ²μ
λλ€.40 As it is, we are in danger of being charged with rioting because of what happened today. In that case we would not be able to account for this commotion, since there is no reason for it.” μ€λ μΌλ‘ μΈν΄ μ°λ¦¬λ μλμ£λ‘ κ³ μλΉν μνμ΄ μμ΅λλ€. κ·Έλ΄ κ²½μ°μ μ°λ¦¬κ° μ΄μ μμ΄ μΌμ΄λ μ΄ μλμ λν΄ ν΄λͺ
