David's Charge to Israel

28 David assembled at Jerusalem all the officials of Israel, the officials of the tribes, the officers of the divisions that served the king, the commanders of thousands, the commanders of hundreds, the stewards of all the property and livestock of the king and his sons, together with the palace officials, the mighty men and all the seasoned warriors.다윗이 이스라엘의 모든 관리를 예루살렘에 불러 모았습니다. 그들은 각 지파의 관리, 왕을 섬기는 부대의 사령관, 천부장과 백부장, 왕과 그의 아들이 가진 모든 재산과 가축을 맡은 관리, 왕궁 관리의 지도자, 용사들과 모든 용감한 전사들이었습니다.2 Then King David rose to his feet and said: “Hear me, my brothers and my people. I had it in my heart to build a house of rest for the ark of the covenant of the Lord and for the footstool of our God, and I made preparations for building.다윗 왕이 일어나 말했습니다. “내 형제들과 내 백성들아, 내 말을 잘 들으라. 내가 마음속에 우리 하나님의 발 받침판인 여호와의 언약궤를 둘 집을 지을 생각이었다. 그리하여 나는 성전을 지을 준비를 했다. 3 But God said to me, ‘You may not build a house for my name, for you are a man of war and have shed blood.’그러나 하나님께서 내게 ‘내 이름을 위해 집을 지을 사람은 네가 아니다. 너는 용사라 피를 너무 많이 흘렸기 때문에 할 수 없다’라고 말씀하셨다 4 Yet the Lord God of Israel chose me from all my father's house to be king over Israel forever. For he chose Judah as leader, and in the house of Judah my father's house, and among my father's sons he took pleasure in me to make me king over all Israel. 그러나 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와께서는 우리의 모든 집안에서 나를 선택해 영원히 이스라엘을 다스릴 왕이 되게 하셨다. 그는 유다를 지도자로 선택하셨고 유다의 집에서는 내 집안을 선택하셨으며 내 아버지의 아들 가운데서는 나를 기뻐하셔서 온 이스라엘을 다스릴 왕으로 삼으셨다.5 And of all my sons (for the Lord has given me many sons) he has chosen Solomon my son to sit on the throne of the kingdom of the Lord over Israel.여호와께서 내게 아들을 많이 주셨는데 내 모든 아들 가운데서는 내 아들 솔로몬을 선택해 이스라엘 위에 있는 여호와의 나라의 왕의 자리에 앉게 하시고 이스라엘을 다스리게 하셨다. 6 He said to me, ‘It is Solomon your son who shall build my house and my courts, for I have chosen him to be my son, and I will be his father.여호와께서 내게 말씀하셨다. ‘네 아들 솔로몬이 내 집과 내 마당을 지을 사람이다. 내가 솔로몬을 내 아들로 선택했고 나는 그의 아버지가 될 것이다7 I will establish his kingdom forever if he continues strong in keeping my commandments and my rules, as he is today.’그가 만약 변하지 않고 지금처럼 내 규례와 율례를 힘써 지키면 내가 그의 나라를 영원히 세울 것이다.’ 8 Now therefore in the sight of all Israel, the assembly of the Lord, and in the hearing of our God, observe and seek out all the commandments of the Lord your God, that you may possess this good land and leave it for an inheritance to your children after you forever.그러므로 이제 너희는 온 이스라엘과 여호와의 회중이 보는 앞에서, 또 우리 하나님께서 들으시는 가운데 너희 하나님 여호와의 모든 명령을 지키려고 애쓰라. 그래서 너희가 이 좋은 땅을 물려받아 누리고 너희 자손에게 이 땅을 영원히 넘겨줄 수 있도록 하라.

David's Charge to Solomon

9 “And you, Solomon my son, know the God of your father and serve him with a whole heart and with a willing mind, for the Lord searches all hearts and understands every plan and thought. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you forsake him, he will cast you off forever. 내 아들 솔로몬아, 하나님을 네 아버지로 알고 온 마음을 드리며 기꺼이 그분을 섬겨라. 여호와께서는 모든 마음을 살피시고 사람의 생각과 의도를 헤아리신다. 만약 네가 그분을 찾으면 만날 것이요, 만약 네가 그분을 버리면 그분이 너를 영원히 버리실 것이다.10 Be careful now, for the Lord has chosen you to build a house for the sanctuary; be strong and do it.”그러므로 너는 깊이 생각하여라. 여호와께서 너를 선택해 성소로서 성전을 짓도록 하셨기 때문이다. 힘써서 이 일을 하여라.”

항상 믿음으로 맞서고 화해를 선택하십시오

 8 When David heard of it, he sent Joab and all the army of the mighty men. 다윗은 이 소식을 듣자마자 요압과 모든 용사를 보냈습니다.9 And the Ammonites came out and drew up in battle array at the entrance of the city, and the kings who had come were by themselves in the open country.암몬 사람은 나아와 자기들의 성문에 진을 쳤고 이미 와 있던 왕들은 따로 들판에 떨어져 있었습니다.

Ammonites and Syrians Defeated

10 When Joab saw that the battle was set against him both in front and in the rear, he chose some of the best men of Israel and arrayed them against the Syrians. 요압은 앞뒤에 적이 진을 친 것을 보고 이스라엘에서 뛰어난 군사 가운데서 고르고 골라 아람 사람을 상대로 진을 쳤습니다.11 The rest of his men he put in the charge of Abishai his brother, and they were arrayed against the Ammonites.나머지 군사들은 요압의 동생인 아비새의 지휘 아래 암몬 사람을 상대로 진을 쳤습니다. 12 And he said, “If the Syrians are too strong for me, then you shall help me, but if the Ammonites are too strong for you, then I will help you.요압이 말했습니다. “아람 사람이 나보다 강하면 나를 도우러 와야 한다. 그러나 암몬 사람이 너보다 강하면 내가 너를 도우러 가겠다.13 Be strong, and let us use our strength for our people and for the cities of our God, and may the Lord do what seems good to him.”마음을 굳게 먹어라. 우리 백성들과 우리 하나님의 성을 위해 용감하게 싸우자. 여호와께서 보시기에 옳은 일을 하실 것이다.”14 So Joab and the people who were with him drew near before the Syrians for battle, and they fled before him.그리고 요압과 그의 군대가 아람 사람과 싸우기 위해 나가자 아람의 군사들은 도망쳐 버렸습니다. 15 And when the Ammonites saw that the Syrians fled, they likewise fled before Abishai, Joab's brother, and entered the city. Then Joab came to Jerusalem.아람 사람이 도망치는 것을 본 암몬 사람은 요압의 동생 아비새 앞에서 도망쳐 성안으로 들어가 버렸습니다. 그래서 요압은 예루살렘으로 돌아갔습니다.
16 But when the Syrians saw that they had been defeated by Israel, they sent messengers and brought out the Syrians who were beyond the Euphrates,[b] with Shophach the commander of the army of Hadadezer at their head.아람 사람은 자기들이 이스라엘에게 진 것을 보고 사람을 보내 아람 사람을 다시 강 건너로 불러냈습니다. 하닷에셀 군대의 사령관 소박이 그들을 이끌었습니다. 17 And when it was told to David, he gathered all Israel together and crossed the Jordan and came to them and drew up his forces against them. And when David set the battle in array against the Syrians, they fought with him.다윗은 이 소식을 듣고 온 이스라엘을 모아서 요단 강을 건너갔습니다. 그는 아람 사람들을 향해 나아가 그 반대편에 진을 쳤습니다. 다윗은 그곳에서 아람 사람과 맞서 그들과 싸웠습니다.18 And the Syrians fled before Israel, and David killed of the Syrians the men of 7,000 chariots and 40,000 foot soldiers, and put to death also Shophach the commander of their army. 그러나 아람 사람들은 이스라엘 앞에서 쫓겨 도망쳤습니다. 다윗은 아람의 전차병 7,000명과 보병 4만 명을 죽이고 또 그 군대의 사령관 소박도 죽였습니다.19 And when the servants of Hadadezer saw that they had been defeated by Israel, they made peace with David and became subject to him. So the Syrians were not willing to save the Ammonites anymore.하닷에셀의 부하들은 자기들이 이스라엘에 진 것을 보고 다윗과 평화롭게 지내고 다윗을 섬기기로 했습니다. 그 후로 아람 사람은 암몬 사람을 도우려 하지 않았습니다.

16 And they brought in the ark of God and set it inside the tent that David had pitched for it, and they offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before God.그들은 하나님의 궤를 모셔다가 다윗이 친 장막 안에 두었고 하나님 앞에 번제와 화목제를 드렸습니다2 And when David had finished offering the burnt offerings and the peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the Lord 다윗은 번제와 화목제를 다 드린 후 백성들을 여호와의 이름으로 축복했습니다.3 and distributed to all Israel, both men and women, to each a loaf of bread, a portion of meat,[a] and a cake of raisins.그리고 그는 남자 여자 모두 이스라엘 백성 하나하나에게 빵 한 덩이와 고기 한 조각과 건포도 과자 하나를 나눠 주었습니다.
4 Then he appointed some of the Levites as ministers before the ark of the Lord, to invoke, to thank, and to praise the Lord, the God of Israel.다윗은 몇몇 레위 사람을 뽑아 여호와의 궤 앞에서 섬기고 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와를 찬양하며 감사를 드리게 했습니다. 5 Asaph was the chief, and second to him were Zechariah, Jeiel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, Obed-edom, and Jeiel, who were to play harps and lyres; Asaph was to sound the cymbals,그 우두머리는 아삽이었고 그다음은 스가랴, 그다음은 여이엘, 스미라못, 여히엘, 맛디디아, 엘리압, 브나야, 오벧에돔, 여이엘이었습니다. 그들은 비파와 수금을 켜고 아삽은 심벌즈를 치고 6 and Benaiah and Jahaziel the priests were to blow trumpets regularly before the ark of the covenant of God.제사장인 브나야와 야하시엘은 정해진 시간마다 하나님의 언약궤 앞에서 나팔을 불었습니다.

1 [a] Adam, Seth, Enosh;아담, 셋, 에노스 2 Kenan, Mahalalel, Jared;게난, 마할랄렐, 야렛 3 Enoch, Methuselah, Lamech; 에녹, 므두셀라, 라멕, 노아4 Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth.노아의 아들은 셈, 함, 야벳입니다.
5 The sons of Japheth: Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras.야벳의 아들은 고멜, 마곡, 마대, 야완, 두발, 메섹, 디라스입니다.6 The sons of Gomer: Ashkenaz, Riphath,[b] and Togarmah.고멜의 아들은 아스그나스, 디밧, 도갈마입니다. 7 The sons of Javan: Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim, and Rodanim.야완의 아들은 엘리사, 다시스, 깃딤, 도다님입니다.
8 The sons of Ham: Cush, Egypt, Put, and Canaan.함의 아들은 구스, 미스라임, 붓, 가나안입니다. 9 The sons of Cush: Seba, Havilah, Sabta, Raamah, and Sabteca. 11 Egypt fathered Ludim, Anamim, Lehabim, Naphtuhim,미스라임에게서 루딤 족속, 아나밈 족속, 르하빔 족속, 납두힘 족속 12 Pathrusim, Casluhim (from whom the Philistines came), and Caphtorim.바드루심 족속, 가슬루힘 족속, 갑도림 족속이 나왔습니다. 가슬루힘 족속은 블레셋 족속의 조상이 됐습니다.
13 Canaan fathered Sidon his firstborn and Heth,가나안은 맏아들 시돈과 헷을 낳았습니다. 14 and the Jebusites, the Amorites, the Girgashites, 가나안에서 여부스 족속, 아모리 족속, 기르가스 족속 15 the Hivites, the Arkites, the Sinites,히위 족속, 알가 족속, 신 족속 16 the Arvadites, the Zemarites, and the Hamathites.아르왓 족속, 스말 족속, 하맛 족속이 나왔습니다.
17 The sons of Shem: Elam, Asshur, Arpachshad, Lud, and Aram. And the sons of Aram:[d] Uz, Hul, Gether, and Meshech. 셈의 아들은 엘람, 앗수르, 아르박삿, 룻, 아람, 우스, 훌, 게델, 메섹입니다18 Arpachshad fathered Shelah, and Shelah fathered Eber. 아르박삿은 셀라를 낳고 셀라는 에벨을 낳고19 To Eber were born two sons: the name of the one was Peleg[e] (for in his days the earth was divided), and his brother's name was Joktan.에벨은 두 아들을 낳았습니다. 한 아들의 이름을 벨렉이라고 지었는데 그 시절에 땅이 나뉘었기 때문입니다. 그 동생의 이름은 욕단입니다 20 Joktan fathered Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah,욕단은 알모닷, 셀렙, 하살마웻, 예라, 21 Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah, 하도람, 우살, 디글라22 Obal,[f] Abimael, Sheba, 에발, 아비마엘, 스바,23 Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab; all these were the sons of Joktan.오빌, 하윌라, 요밥을 낳았습니다. 이 모두가 욕단의 아들입니다.

From Abraham to Jacob

28 The sons of Abraham: Isaac and Ishmael. 아브라함의 아들은 이삭과 이스마엘입니다29 These are their genealogies: the firstborn of Ishmael, Nebaioth, and Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam,이스마엘의 족보는 이러합니다. 이스마엘의 맏아들은 느바욧이며, 그 아래로 게달, 앗브엘, 밉삼, 30 Mishma, Dumah, Massa, Hadad, Tema, 미스마, 두마, 맛사, 하닷, 데마31 Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah. These are the sons of Ishmael.여둘, 나비스, 게드마입니다. 이들 모두 이스마엘의 아들입니다 32 The sons of Keturah, Abraham's concubine: she bore Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah. The sons of Jokshan: Sheba and Dedan. 아브라함의 첩 그두라가 낳은 아들은 시므란, 욕산, 므단, 미디안, 이스박, 수아입니다. 욕산의 아들은 스바와 드단입니다33 The sons of Midian: Ephah, Epher, Hanoch, Abida, and Eldaah. 34 Abraham fathered Isaac. The sons of Isaac: Esau and Israel.아브라함은 이삭을 낳았습니다. 이삭의 아들은 에서와 이스라엘입니다 35 The sons of Esau: Eliphaz, Reuel, Jeush, Jalam, and Korah. 에서의 아들은 엘리바스, 르우엘, 여우스, 얄람, 고라입니다.36 The sons of Eliphaz: Teman, Omar, Zepho, Gatam, Kenaz, and of Timna,[g] Amalek. 엘리바스의 아들은 데만, 오말, 스비, 가담, 그나스, 딤나, 아말렉입니37 The sons of Reuel: Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah.르우엘의 아들은 나핫, 세라, 삼마, 밋사입니다.
38 The sons of Seir: Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah, Dishon, Ezer, and Dishan.세일의 아들은 로단, 소발, 시브온, 아나, 디손, 에셀, 디산입니다.39 The sons of Lotan: Hori and Hemam;[h] and Lotan's sister was Timna. 로단의 아들은 호리와 호맘입니다. 딤나는 로단의 여동생입니다.40 The sons of Shobal: Alvan,[i] Manahath, Ebal, Shepho,[j] and Onam. The sons of Zibeon: Aiah and Anah. 소발의 아들은 알랸, 마나핫, 에발, 스비, 오남입니다. 시브온의 아들은 아야와 아나입니다.41 The son[k] of Anah: Dishon. 43 These are the kings who reigned in the land of Edom before any king reigned over the people of Israel: Bela the son of Beor, the name of his city being Dinhabah.다음은 이스라엘을 다스리는 왕이 있기 전에 에돔을 다스린 왕들입니다. 브올의 아들 벨라는 자기 성의 이름을 딘하바라고 지었습니다 44 Bela died, and Jobab the son of Zerah of Bozrah reigned in his place. 벨라가 죽자 보스라 출신인 세라의 아들 요밥이 뒤를 이어 왕이 됐습니다 45 Jobab died, and Husham of the land of the Temanites reigned in his place. 요밥이 죽자 데만 족속 출신인 후삼이 뒤를 이어 왕이 됐습니다46 Husham died, and Hadad the son of Bedad, who defeated Midian in the country of Moab, reigned in his place, the name of his city being Avith.후삼이 죽자 브닷의 아들 하닷이 뒤를 이어 왕이 됐습니다. 하닷은 모압 들판에서 미디안을 친 사람으로 그는 성의 이름을 아윗이라고 지었습니다. 47 Hadad died, and Samlah of Masrekah reigned in his place. 하닷이 죽자 마스레가 출신인 사믈라가 뒤를 이어 왕이 됐습니다48 Samlah died, and Shaul of Rehoboth on the Euphrates[n] reigned in his place.사믈라가 죽자 강가에 살았던 르호봇 출신인 사울이 뒤를 이어 왕이 됐습니다. 49 Shaul died, and Baal-hanan, the son of Achbor, reigned in his place. 사울이 죽자 악볼의 아들 바알하난이 뒤를 이어 왕이 됐습니다.50 Baal-hanan died, and Hadad reigned in his place, the name of his city being Pai; and his wife's name was Mehetabel, the daughter of Matred, the daughter of Mezahab. 바알하난이 죽자 하닷이 뒤를 이어 왕이 됐습니다. 그는 성의 이름을 바이라고 지었습니다. 그 아내의 이름은 므헤다벨인데 메사합의 손녀이자 마드렛의 딸입니다.51 And Hadad died.
The chiefs of Edom were: chiefs Timna, Alvah, Jetheth, 하닷 또한 죽었습니다. 그 후에 에돔의 족장은 딤나, 알랴, 여뎃,52 Oholibamah, Elah, Pinon,오홀리바마, 엘라, 비논 53 Kenaz, Teman, Mibzar, 그나스, 데만, 밉살,54 Magdiel, and Iram; these are the chiefs of Edom.막디엘, 이람입니다. 이들은 모두 에돔의 족장이었습니다.

A Genealogy of David

2 These are the sons of Israel: Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun,2 Dan, Joseph, Benjamin, Naphtali, Gad, and Asher. 3 The sons of Judah: Er, Onan and Shelah; these three Bath-shua the Canaanite bore to him. Now Er, Judah's firstborn, was evil in the sight of the Lord, and he put him to death. 4 His daughter-in-law Tamar also bore him Perez and Zerah. Judah had five sons in all.
5 The sons of Perez: Hezron and Hamul. 6 The sons of Zerah: Zimri, Ethan, Heman, Calcol, and Dara, five in all. 7 The son[a] of Carmi: Achan, the troubler of Israel, who broke faith in the matter of the devoted thing; 8 and Ethan's son was Azariah.
9 The sons of Hezron that were born to him: Jerahmeel, Ram, and Chelubai.10 Ram fathered Amminadab, and Amminadab fathered Nahshon, prince of the sons of Judah. 11 Nahshon fathered Salmon,[b] Salmon fathered Boaz, 12 Boaz fathered Obed, Obed fathered Jesse. 13 Jesse fathered Eliab his firstborn, Abinadab the second, Shimea the third, 14 Nethanel the fourth, Raddai the fifth,15 Ozem the sixth, David the seventh. 16 And their sisters were Zeruiah and Abigail. The sons of Zeruiah: Abishai, Joab, and Asahel, three. 17 Abigail bore Amasa, and the father of Amasa was Jether the Ishmaelite.
18 Caleb the son of Hezron fathered children by his wife Azubah, and by Jerioth; and these were her sons: Jesher, Shobab, and Ardon. 19 When Azubah died, Caleb married Ephrath, who bore him Hur. 20 Hur fathered Uri, and Uri fathered Bezalel.
21 Afterward Hezron went in to the daughter of Machir the father of Gilead, whom he married when he was sixty years old, and she bore him Segub. 22 And Segub fathered Jair, who had twenty-three cities in the land of Gilead. 23 But Geshur and Aram took from them Havvoth-jair, Kenath, and its villages, sixty towns. All these were descendants of Machir, the father of Gilead. 24 After the death of Hezron, Caleb went in to Ephrathah,[c] the wife of Hezron his father, and she bore him Ashhur, the father of Tekoa.
25 The sons of Jerahmeel, the firstborn of Hezron: Ram, his firstborn, Bunah, Oren, Ozem, and Ahijah. 26 Jerahmeel also had another wife, whose name was Atarah; she was the mother of Onam. 27 The sons of Ram, the firstborn of Jerahmeel: Maaz, Jamin, and Eker. 28 The sons of Onam: Shammai and Jada. The sons of Shammai: Nadab and Abishur. 29 The name of Abishur's wife was Abihail, and she bore him Ahban and Molid. 30 The sons of Nadab: Seled and Appaim; and Seled died childless. 31 The son[d] of Appaim: Ishi. The son of Ishi: Sheshan. The son of Sheshan: Ahlai. 32 The sons of Jada, Shammai's brother: Jether and Jonathan; and Jether died childless. 33 The sons of Jonathan: Peleth and Zaza. These were the descendants of Jerahmeel. 34 Now Sheshan had no sons, only daughters, but Sheshan had an Egyptian slave whose name was Jarha. 35 So Sheshan gave his daughter in marriage to Jarha his slave, and she bore him Attai. 36 Attai fathered Nathan, and Nathan fathered Zabad. 37 Zabad fathered Ephlal, and Ephlal fathered Obed. 38 Obed fathered Jehu, and Jehu fathered Azariah. 39 Azariah fathered Helez, and Helez fathered Eleasah.40 Eleasah fathered Sismai, and Sismai fathered Shallum. 41 Shallum fathered Jekamiah, and Jekamiah fathered Elishama.
42 The sons of Caleb the brother of Jerahmeel: Mareshah[e] his firstborn, who fathered Ziph. The son[f] of Mareshah: Hebron.[g] 43 The sons of Hebron: Korah, Tappuah, Rekem and Shema. 44 Shema fathered Raham, the father of Jorkeam; and Rekem fathered Shammai. 45 The son of Shammai: Maon; and Maon fathered Beth-zur. 46 Ephah also, Caleb's concubine, bore Haran, Moza, and Gazez; and Haran fathered Gazez. 47 The sons of Jahdai: Regem, Jotham, Geshan, Pelet, Ephah, and Shaaph. 48 Maacah, Caleb's concubine, bore Sheber and Tirhanah. 49 She also bore Shaaph the father of Madmannah, Sheva the father of Machbenah and the father of Gibea; and the daughter of Caleb was Achsah. 50 These were the descendants of Caleb.
The sons[h] of Hur the firstborn of Ephrathah: Shobal the father of Kiriath-jearim,51 Salma, the father of Bethlehem, and Hareph the father of Beth-gader.52 Shobal the father of Kiriath-jearim had other sons: Haroeh, half of the Menuhoth. 53 And the clans of Kiriath-jearim: the Ithrites, the Puthites, the Shumathites, and the Mishraites; from these came the Zorathites and the Eshtaolites. 54 The sons of Salma: Bethlehem, the Netophathites, Atroth-beth-joab and half of the Manahathites, the Zorites. 55 The clans also of the scribes who lived at Jabez: the Tirathites, the Shimeathites and the Sucathites. These are the Kenites who came from Hammath, the father of the house of Rechab.

Descendants of David

3 These are the sons of David who were born to him in Hebron: the firstborn, Amnon, by Ahinoam the Jezreelite; the second, Daniel, by Abigail the Carmelite,2 the third, Absalom, whose mother was Maacah, the daughter of Talmai, king of Geshur; the fourth, Adonijah, whose mother was Haggith; 3 the fifth, Shephatiah, by Abital; the sixth, Ithream, by his wife Eglah; 4 six were born to him in Hebron, where he reigned for seven years and six months. And he reigned thirty-three years in Jerusalem. 5 These were born to him in Jerusalem: Shimea, Shobab, Nathan and Solomon, four by Bath-shua, the daughter of Ammiel; 6 then Ibhar, Elishama, Eliphelet, 7 Nogah, Nepheg, Japhia, 8 Elishama, Eliada, and Eliphelet, nine. 9 All these were David's sons, besides the sons of the concubines, and Tamar was their sister.
10 The son of Solomon was Rehoboam, Abijah his son, Asa his son, Jehoshaphat his son, 11 Joram his son, Ahaziah his son, Joash his son, 12 Amaziah his son, Azariah his son, Jotham his son, 13 Ahaz his son, Hezekiah his son, Manasseh his son, 14 Amon his son, Josiah his son. 15 The sons of Josiah: Johanan the firstborn, the second Jehoiakim, the third Zedekiah, the fourth Shallum. 16 The descendants of Jehoiakim: Jeconiah his son, Zedekiah his son; 17 and the sons of Jeconiah, the captive: Shealtiel his son, 18 Malchiram, Pedaiah, Shenazzar, Jekamiah, Hoshama and Nedabiah; 19 and the sons of Pedaiah: Zerubbabel and Shimei; and the sons of Zerubbabel: Meshullam and Hananiah, and Shelomith was their sister; 20 and Hashubah, Ohel, Berechiah, Hasadiah, and Jushab-hesed, five. 21 The sons of Hananiah: Pelatiah and Jeshaiah, his son[a] Rephaiah, his son Arnan, his son Obadiah, his son Shecaniah. 22 The son[b] of Shecaniah: Shemaiah. And the sons of Shemaiah: Hattush, Igal, Bariah, Neariah, and Shaphat, six. 23 The sons of Neariah: Elioenai, Hizkiah, and Azrikam, three.24 The sons of Elioenai: Hodaviah, Eliashib, Pelaiah, Akkub, Johanan, Delaiah, and Anani, seven.

Descendants of Judah

4 The sons of Judah: Perez, Hezron, Carmi, Hur, and Shobal. 2 Reaiah the son of Shobal fathered Jahath, and Jahath fathered Ahumai and Lahad. These were the clans of the Zorathites. 3 These were the sons[a] of Etam: Jezreel, Ishma, and Idbash; and the name of their sister was Hazzelelponi, 4 and Penuel fathered Gedor, and Ezer fathered Hushah. These were the sons of Hur, the firstborn of Ephrathah, the father of Bethlehem. 5 Ashhur, the father of Tekoa, had two wives, Helah and Naarah; 6 Naarah bore him Ahuzzam, Hepher, Temeni, and Haahashtari. These were the sons of Naarah. 7 The sons of Helah: Zereth, Izhar, and Ethnan. 8 Koz fathered Anub, Zobebah, and the clans of Aharhel, the son of Harum. 9 Jabez was more honorable than his brothers; and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, “Because I bore him in pain.”[b] 10 Jabez called upon the God of Israel, saying, “Oh that you would bless me and enlarge my border, and that your hand might be with me, and that you would keep me from harm[c] so that it might not bring me pain!” And God granted what he asked. 11 Chelub, the brother of Shuhah, fathered Mehir, who fathered Eshton. 12 Eshton fathered Beth-rapha, Paseah, and Tehinnah, the father of Ir-nahash. These are the men of Recah. 13 The sons of Kenaz: Othniel and Seraiah; and the sons of Othniel: Hathath and Meonothai.[d] 14 Meonothai fathered Ophrah; and Seraiah fathered Joab, the father of Ge-harashim,[e] so-called because they were craftsmen. 15 The sons of Caleb the son of Jephunneh: Iru, Elah, and Naam; and the son[f] of Elah: Kenaz. 16 The sons of Jehallelel: Ziph, Ziphah, Tiria, and Asarel. 17 The sons of Ezrah: Jether, Mered, Epher, and Jalon. These are the sons of Bithiah, the daughter of Pharaoh, whom Mered married;[g] and she conceived and bore[h]Miriam, Shammai, and Ishbah, the father of Eshtemoa. 18 And his Judahite wife bore Jered the father of Gedor, Heber the father of Soco, and Jekuthiel the father of Zanoah. 19 The sons of the wife of Hodiah, the sister of Naham, were the fathers of Keilah the Garmite and Eshtemoa the Maacathite. 20 The sons of Shimon: Amnon, Rinnah, Ben-hanan, and Tilon. The sons of Ishi: Zoheth and Ben-zoheth. 21 The sons of Shelah the son of Judah: Er the father of Lecah, Laadah the father of Mareshah, and the clans of the house of linen workers at Beth-ashbea; 22 and Jokim, and the men of Cozeba, and Joash, and Saraph, who ruled in Moab and returned to Lehem[i] (now the records[j] are ancient). 23 These were the potters who were inhabitants of Netaim and Gederah. They lived there in the king's service.

Descendants of Simeon

24 The sons of Simeon: Nemuel, Jamin, Jarib, Zerah, Shaul; 25 Shallum was his son, Mibsam his son, Mishma his son. 26 The sons of Mishma: Hammuel his son, Zaccur his son, Shimei his son. 27 Shimei had sixteen sons and six daughters; but his brothers did not have many children, nor did all their clan multiply like the men of Judah. 28 They lived in Beersheba, Moladah, Hazar-shual, 29 Bilhah, Ezem, Tolad, 30 Bethuel, Hormah, Ziklag, 31 Beth-marcaboth, Hazar-susim, Beth-biri, and Shaaraim. These were their cities until David reigned. 32 And their villages were Etam, Ain, Rimmon, Tochen, and Ashan, five cities, 33 along with all their villages that were around these cities as far as Baal. These were their settlements, and they kept a genealogical record.
34 Meshobab, Jamlech, Joshah the son of Amaziah, 35 Joel, Jehu the son of Joshibiah, son of Seraiah, son of Asiel, 36 Elioenai, Jaakobah, Jeshohaiah, Asaiah, Adiel, Jesimiel, Benaiah, 37 Ziza the son of Shiphi, son of Allon, son of Jedaiah, son of Shimri, son of Shemaiah— 38 these mentioned by name were princes in their clans, and their fathers' houses increased greatly. 39 They journeyed to the entrance of Gedor, to the east side of the valley, to seek pasture for their flocks,40 where they found rich, good pasture, and the land was very broad, quiet, and peaceful, for the former inhabitants there belonged to Ham. 41 These, registered by name, came in the days of Hezekiah, king of Judah, and destroyed their tents and the Meunites who were found there, and marked them for destruction to this day, and settled in their place, because there was pasture there for their flocks.42 And some of them, five hundred men of the Simeonites, went to Mount Seir, having as their leaders Pelatiah, Neariah, Rephaiah, and Uzziel, the sons of Ishi.43 And they defeated the remnant of the Amalekites who had escaped, and they have lived there to this day.
