고린도후서 배경

고린도는 주전 146년에 로마에 의해 파괴된 후, 100년 동안이나 버려졌다가 줄리어스 시저(Julius Caesar)에 의해 주전 44년에 재건된 도시였습니다. 바울이 고린도를 방문하여 복음을 전하고 교회를 세운 것은 주후 50년 어간인데, 당시 도시의 인구는 8만 정도였고 이제 90년 정도의 새로운 역사를 가진 젊은 도시였습니다. 그러나 고린도는 빠르게 성장하여 제국 내에서 알렉산드리아와 로마에 이어 세번째로 중요한 도시가 되었고 경제 기적을 일구어 많은 도시의 시기의 대상이 되었습니다. 그래서 고린도에서는 스포츠와 유흥문화가 발달되었고 여행과 성산업과 종교적 다원주의 그리고 물질주의가 편만했습니다. 고린도의 이런 점이 오늘날의 캘리포나아와 유사해서 레이 스테드만(Ray Stedman)목사님은 고린도전서와 후서를 ‘캘리포니아 전서와 후서’라고 부르기도 했습니다. 그러나 비단 이것은 캘리포니아와 유사하기만 한 것이 아니라 오늘날의 경향과 유사하다고 생각됩니다.

바울은 그의 2차 전도여행 중, 고린도에서 1년 반을 머물며 복음을 전하고 교회를 세웠습니다(행 18:1~17). 그리고 에베소를 거쳐 예루살렘으로 올라갔다가 다시 3차 전도여행 중 에베소에 왔을 때 거기서 고린도전서를 쓴 것으로 보입니다. 이것은 그가 고린도를 떠난지 3년이 지났을 무렵이었습니다. 고린도전서를 쓰면서 그는 예루살렘의 가난한 성도들을 위한 모금을 하기 위해 고린도를 방문할 계획을 가지고 있었습니다(고전 16:1~11). 그러나 그 사이에 디모데를 보냈고 디모데가 고린도에서 본 것은 우상숭배와 음행과 거짓 교사들로 인해 교회가 무너지고 있는 모습이었습니다. 그래서 그는 곧 고린도를 계획과는 달리 잠깐이라도 방문하여 교회의 징계문제를 다루려고 2차 방문을 하였습니다. 그러나 그 방문은 ‘고통스런 방문’이 되었습니다(고후 2:1). 그들은 사도의 권위 자체를 문제삼았고, 바울 사도의 사역과 인격에 대해서까지도 비난을 하였습니다.
그들은 이렇게 사도 바울에게 도전하였습니다. 바울이 진짜라면 왜 그렇게 그의 삶에는 고난이 많은가? 왜 그의 사역은 다른 ‘지극히 큰 사도(super-apostles)’들과 비교하여 활기가 없는가? 왜 그의 설교는 와닿는게 없는가? 왜 그는 하나님이 자기 삶을 인도한다고 하면서 그렇게 방문하겠다는 계획을 변경할 수 있는가? 왜 그는 다른 대부분의 설교자들처럼 사례를 받지 않는가? 그가 모금한다는 것은 믿을만한 것인가? 왜 그는 다른 사도들처럼 추천장이 없는가?
고린도 교회의 바울 사도에 대한 비난과 의심은 그들이 거짓 교사들로부터 받은 ‘다른 복음’(고후 11:4) 때문이었습니다.
바울 사도는 심히 상처를 받고 2차 방문에서 돌아왔습니다. 그리고는 회개를 촉구하며 심한 내용의 편지를 써서 디도 편에 보냈습니다(고후 2:4). 이 편지는 잃어버려진 편지로 봅니다. 그런데 놀랍게도 고린도교회는 그의 편지를 읽고 회개하였습니다. 고린도 교회의 많은 사람들이 다시 바울과 그의 복음에게로 돌이켰지만 여전히 그의 권위를 거부하는 사람들이 남아 있었습니다. 하지만 바울은 세번째로 고린도를 방문하기에 앞서 이제 고린도후서를 쓰게 됩니다. 이 때는 바울 사도가 에베소에서의 3년의 사역을 마치고 마게도냐로 갔을 때였습니다. 아마 마게도냐 지방의 빌립보에서 썼을 것이라고 추정합니다. 이런 배경에서 고린도후서를 읽고 상고하면 크게 도움이 될 것입니다. 이런 배경들을 볼 때 우리는 고린도후서는 바울 사도가 쓴 가장 감정이 깊이 배어있는 편지임을 알게 됩니다.

Chapter 18

1-7 제사장과 레위인의 직무 (Duties of Priests and Levites)

1.	The LORD said to Aaron, "You, your sons and your father's family are to bear the responsibility for offenses against the sanctuary, and you and your sons alone are to bear the responsibility for offenses against the priesthood.

여호와께서 아론에게 이르시되 너와 네 아들들과 네 조상의 가문은 성소에 대한 죄를 함께 담당할 것이요 너와 네 아들들은 너희의 제사장 직분에 대한 죄를 함께 담당할 것이니라

8-20 제사장과 레위인의 몫과 헌금 (Portion & Offerings for Priests and Levites)

Then the LORD said to Aaron, "I myself have put you in charge of the offerings presented to me; all the holy offerings the Israelites give me I give to you and your sons as your portion and regular share.여호와께서 또 아론에게 이르시되 보라 내가 내 거제물 곧 이스라엘 자손이 거룩하게 한 모든 헌물을 네가 주관하게 하고 네가 기름 부음을 받았음으로 말미암아 그것을 너와 네 아들들에게 영구한 몫의 음식으로 주노라

20.	The LORD said to Aaron, "You will have no inheritance in their land, nor will you have any share among them; I am your share and your inheritance among the Israelites.

여호와께서 또 아론에게 이르시되 너는 이스라엘 자손의 땅에 기업도 없겠고 그들 중에 아무 분깃도 없을 것이나 내가 이스라엘 자손 중에 네 분깃이요 네 기업이니라

26.	"Speak to the Levites and say to them: `When you receive from the Israelites the tithe I give you as your inheritance, you must present a tenth of that tithe as the LORD's offering.너는 레위인에게 말하여 그에게 이르라 내가 이스라엘 자손에게 받아 너희에게 기업으로 준 십일조를 너희가 그들에게서 받을 때에 그 십일조의 십일조를 거제로 여호와께 드릴 것이라

Chapter 19

2.	"This is a requirement of the law that the LORD has commanded: Tell the Israelites to bring you a red heifer without defect or blemish and that has never been under a yoke.

여호와께서 명령하시는 법의 율례를 이제 이르노니 이스라엘 자손에게 일러서 온전하여 흠이 없고 아직 멍에 메지 아니한 붉은 암송아지를 네게로 끌어오게 하고

"A man who is clean shall gather up the ashes of the heifer and put them in a ceremonially clean place outside the camp. They shall be kept by the Israelite community for use in the water of cleansing; it is for purification from sin. 이에 정결한 자가 암송아지의 재를 거두어 진영 밖 정한 곳에 둘지니 이것은 이스라엘 자손 회중을 위하여 간직하였다가 부정을 씻는 물을 위해 간직할지니 그것은 속죄제니라

But if a person who is unclean does not purify himself, he must be cut off from the community, because he has defiled the sanctuary of the LORD. The water of cleansing has not been sprinkled on him, and he is unclean. 사람이 부정하고도 자신을 정결하게 하지 아니하면 여호와의 성소를 더럽힘이니 그러므로 회중 가운데에서 끊어질 것이니라 그는 정결하게 하는 물로 뿌림을 받지 아니하였은즉 부정하니라
